Wherever Gustav hit, people have stories. As we follow the destruction on the news, there is always a miracle hidden within.
This is a miracle story. Patrick arrived home today after being stranded in Mayette for a week. He was able to get to Cote de Fer, with much care as there really wasn’t a road, just some rearrangement in the road so that he could pass through. When he called and said he made it across the river, we rejoiced, as it was deep, the water came to the hood of the vehicle. We are told that right after he went through the river, a big truck tried to cross the river, and got stuck in the middle of the river. No one could get the truck out. This also has blocked the way for any other vehicles to cross the river. Had the truck went in the river before Patrick, he would never had gotten home today nor for many days!! God made a way through the river!! We praise God for this!!
Patrick had gone to Mayette early morning before the storm hit that day. He was taking school books out for the schools. Then bringing the 3 deaf girls out with him to take them to their school. That day Gustav hit Haiti. When other countries are calling evacuation, most Haitians were not even aware that there was a hurricane coming. And even if they would have wanted to evacuate there would have been no place to go.
The storm washed away the road, the cement crossing across the water, and many places the road was destroyed from Mayette to Cote de Fer. Then there is the river in Cote de Fer, large and the water is high.
People were eating the animals that died in the storm, and the fruit and plantains from the fallen trees. But when that is gone, there is no food. The gardens are destroyed and the crop that was almost ready to be harvested is gone. The little these people had is now gone. Where there were street market places, is only mud and flooding. All is washed away. There is no government to help.
God is greater than all the destruction!! God is all-powerful, all sufficient and He sees each one of us!!
